A choreographer, performer and teacher, Mochniej has been training and working with Monteros since 1991. He was an original member of Silesian Dance Theatre (1991-1994), Poland. While with SDT he performed in the work of a number of prominent New York artists including Anna Sokolow, Talley Beatty, Mark Haim, Stephanie Skura and Risa Jaraslow. He has also performed in the work of Alpo Aaltokoski (Finland), Avi Kaiser (Belgium/ Israel), Paula Ross, Davida Monk and Darcy McGehee (Canada), and others. As an improviser he has studied with Ray Chung, Chris Aiken and David Dorfman. His work in theatre includes study with Polish actors, Jan Peszek, Grzegosz Bral, Jacek Ozimek and others.
He has been a guest artist and choreographer for the University of Calgary and Theatre Junction, for the Bruckner Conservatory in Austria, and for many festivals and workshops. He has received awards for his contributions to dance in Poland from the cities of both Gdansk and Lublin. His solo work has been presented in Calgary, in numerous venues in Poland including the National Theatre in Warsaw, and at the Full Moon Dance Festival in Finland. He is a frequent Guest Artist at the University of Calgary in the Dance Program. The 06/07 season saw Mochniej join Theatre Junction’s Resident Company of Artists based at The GRAND. 2007/2008 will be his first year as Artistic Director of the Centre for Movement Arts and the new Eko Dance Projects.
